India is on the brink of becoming the global capital for Meeings, Incenives, Conferences, and Exhibiions
(MICE), fueled by rapid infrastructure development and government backing. The country’s diverse regions are emerging as world-class MICE destinations, making it a prime location for international conferences and exhibitions.

Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, while inaugurating the Two-day Seminar on “India: The Land of Exponenial Growth,” emphasized the country’s growing MICE sector. “The
MICE industry is one of the fastest-growing segments of tourism in India,” said Shekhawat. “With state-of-the-art infrastructure emerging in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and even smaller towns post-G20, India is now at the forefront of the global MICE revolution.”

Incredble Miles

The Union Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing MICE tourism in India, underlining the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors. “Several global events can be brought to India, and we are building the necessary infrastructure-whether it’s roadways, aviation, or railways-to support this. With further development in the conference and exhibition sectors, India is primed for substantial economic growth,” he added.

India’s growth trajectory in MICE infrastructure is mirrored by significant investments in modern exhibition venues, such as Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi. These iconic sites are expected to elevate India’s presence in the global events industry, helping cities like Jaipur, Bengaluru, and Kochi rise as international MICE hotspots.

As India continues to expand its infrastructure- comprising over 150,000 km of roads, new railway stations, high-speed trains, and over 150 operational airports-the MICE industry’s contribution to the national economy has surged. The Indian exhibition market alone accounts for Rs. 50,000 crore, with business generated through exhibitions reaching an impressive Rs. 300,000 crore.

Reflecting on India’s growing position, Shekhawat stated, “The confidence instilled through India’s successful hosting of the G20 summit has shown the world India’s capability. As a result, India is now set to lead the world in hosting global MICE events.” His remarks underscore India’s readiness to attract high-profile exhibitions and conferences, positioning the country as a future global MICE leader.

Meanwhile, Sooraj Dhawan, President of the Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA), emphasized the importance of such forums for fostering business connections. “The IEIA Open Seminar and Exhibition Services Expo serve as essential platforms for networking and discussing emerging trends. With over 700 industry leaders attending this year’s event, it’s clear that India is on a path to becoming a major global exhibition hub,” Dhawan said.

Incredble Miles

India’s MICE sector, which has experienced significant growth post- COVID, has become a cornerstone for economic development and job creation. The sector is expected to generate more than 100,000 jobs over the next decade, thanks to its vast interconnected network involving hospitality, transportation, and tourism services.

Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat concluded with a strong call for the sector’s future, stating, “India’s MICE sector is a key driver of our economic growth. By working together, we can elevate our country’s status as a premier global destination for business events.” His vision for India’s MICE sector signals a promising future as the country positions itself at the crossroads of economic prosperity and global connectivity. As India continues to solidify its status in the MICE industry, it is expected to remain a key player in driving innovation, tourism, and business growth globally.
